Director of Operations and Development

The MinKwon Center for Community Action is pleased to invite applications to serve as a Director of Operations and Development.

Organization History & Mission

The MinKwon Center for Community Action empowers the Korean American community, and works with the wider Asian American and immigrant communities, to achieve economic and social justice for all.  Since its founding in 1984, the MinKwon Center has achieved a profound presence in the Korean and Asian American communities through various grassroots organizing, advocacy and service initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies, civic participation, and the rights of workers and tenants.  In its current work, the MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of the marginalized, especially low-income, limited-English-proficient and undocumented residents.

Job Description

The Director of Operations and Development will work closely with the Executive Director, staff and Board of Directors to help strengthen, implement and expand MinKwon’s core program work and operations, and provide senior leadership to development and fundraising.  Responsibilities will include:

Fundraising: work with the Executive Director and development staff to:

-       Develop and implement fundraising plans

-       Oversee preparation of grant applications and monitor progress of grant-funded work

-       Assist in managing donor relationships, including

-       Oversee maintenance of relationship management tracking software.

-       Plan and execute major fundraising events such as the anniversary gala and spring reception

-       Prospect new funders and funding sources

Program/Staff Management: with guidance from the Executive Director, works to:

-       Oversee day-to-day activities, including programs, staff and responsibilities

-       Develop new programs, integrate all program activities, and oversee program implementation

-       Implement organizational priorities to support strategic goals

-       Track and monitor organizational budget, cash management and financial reporting

-       Upgrade, organize, and manage ongoing administrative operations

-       Recruit, manage, and effectively lead full and part-time staff as well as consultants and volunteers

-       Monitor and evaluate staff performance 

Qualifications

●     5+ years in relevant progressive experience, including in a leadership/management role

●     Track record in fundraising including relationship development and management

●     Experience in community activism and familiarity with Korean American, Asian American or immigrant community issues strongly preferred

●     Demonstrated interest, experience and commitment to working on social justice issues, such as immigrants’ rights and civil rights

●     Ability to work closely with senior leadership and staff to execute programs in a close-knit team environment

●     Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills

●     Strong project management skills with attention to detail, ability to execute and innovate

●     Previous supervisory experience (preferred)

●     Communication skills in Korean (desired)

●     Exceptional work ethic, committed and passionate about the mission

●     Ability and willingness to participate in regular evening/weekend events

●     Flexibility in taking on ad-hoc roles and assignments as needed
